Quick start
Recommended daily sequence: Capture work in Task List → assign dated work to a Digital Day → Start Workday → Start one task → use Pomodoro → pause for major interruptions → close the day.
1. Capture or plan work
Use Task List for work that may be dated now or scheduled later.
Use Task Planner for work already committed to the current Digital Day.
Enter a clear task name.
Select Morning hours, Afternoon hours, or By EOD.
Optionally select a Finish by time in 30-minute increments for a within-day commitment.
Choose expected hours. New tasks use Medium effort internally for compatibility.
Select the star for up to three Top 3 commitments.
2. Start the workday
Select Start Workday. Task timers are intentionally unavailable before the Digital Workday begins.
3. Work one task at a time
Select Start or use Start now on an overdue task. Starting another task automatically pauses the current task and records a switch.
4. Close the day
Select Close Day, review the allocation, add an optional note, and confirm closure.
Task List
Purpose: Capture work before deciding exactly when to execute it. The Task List is a planning layer beside the Digital Day.
Open the Task List
Select Task List in the upper-right toolbar. The number on the button shows how many open Task List items remain.
Create a dated task
Enter the task name.
Select an optional date.
Select Add.
A dated task remains visible in the Task List and is also linked to the selected Digital Day as By EOD. Focus7 keeps one linked record and prevents a new duplicate from being created when the application refreshes.
Create a task without a date
Leave the date blank and select Add. The task remains under No Date until it is assigned.
Assign an undated task
Select the calendar action beside the task, then choose Today, Tomorrow, or a calendar date. The task enters that Digital Day as By EOD.
Add tasks while planning the live day
Select + From Task List beside Task Planner. Focus7 opens the No Date view. Check one or more tasks and select Add selected to today.
Views and actions
All Tasks: all open and completed Task List records.
By Date: open tasks assigned to a Digital Day.
No Date: captured tasks waiting to be scheduled.
Completed: linked tasks completed through the Digital Day.
Search: filter the Task List by task name.
Edit: rename the Task List record and its linked Digital Day task.
Change date: move the linked task to another Digital Day.
Delete: remove the Task List record and its linked Digital Day task after confirmation.
Tracked-time safeguard: When a linked task already has tracked time, Focus7 asks before moving it to another date. Pause a running task before deleting it.
Backup behavior
Task List records are stored inside the existing Focus7 state under daily-must-do-v1. JSON export, Day Close backup, Import, Merge, and Replace include Task List data.

Holidays and non-working dates
A saved holiday displays as Holiday / Non-working day in the main card and as Holiday · name in the 7-day report. If work is required, select Work today anyway. Focus7 preserves the holiday and records that work occurred on the holiday.
7-day report
The report includes clear column headings, actual dates, status or workday span, task focus, unaccounted time, and utilization. Select any row to display major pauses, available digital time, Pomodoro breaks, and other daily details.
Pause Workday
Select Pause Workday, then choose exactly one reason. The workday pauses only after the reason is selected. Cancel leaves the workday and running task unchanged.
Lunch
Time break
Meeting outside laptop
Offline training
Important: Resume Workday restores availability, but a paused task remains paused until explicitly resumed. This prevents major-pause time from being counted as task focus.
Tasks and Top 3
Expected hours and capacity
Expected hours represent the planned effort for a task. Focus7 compares total expected hours with the daily capacity limit. A warning appears when the plan is overloaded.
Exact Finish by time
The optional Finish by field uses 30-minute choices and adds a within-day commitment without replacing the target-time group. Timed tasks sort earlier within their group, display countdown and passed-time badges, trigger 60, 30, 15-minute and passed-time alerts, and remain visible when promoted into Live Task. On carry-forward, choose whether to keep or clear the old time.
Task controls
Start or Resume: begins task focus and the task's Pomodoro cycle.
Pause: stops task focus without completing the task.
Finish: completes the task and records final focus information.
Star: marks a task as a Top 3 commitment.
×: removes the task after confirmation.
Task switching
Starting a different task automatically pauses the current task and increments the switch count. The Task-switch timeline records the activity.
Pomodoro and active timer pop-out
Pomodoro operates inside each task. The normal sequence is focus cycle → break offer → break or skip → next cycle.
Pause or resume the current cycle from the task card or pop-out.
Use the five-minute short break or fifteen-minute long break when offered.
Skip a break when needed. The skip is recorded.
Use Pop out timer to keep the active task visible in a compact window.
Synchronization: Pause Workday pauses the running task and updates an open timer pop-out to PAUSED. Resume the same incomplete cycle explicitly when ready.
Overdue Action Center
An overdue task retains its original planned date. Carrying the task again never resets the overdue age.
Visual levels
1–3 days: amber emphasis.
4–6 days: orange emphasis.
7+ days: red emphasis.
Actions
Start now: starts the task when the Digital Workday is active.
Try for 5 minutes: starts a low-commitment five-minute entry session.
Break into steps: creates up to five simple steps inside the parent task.
Defer intentionally: records a new planned date, reason, and optional dependency note without deleting the original date.
Sorting and threshold
Sort by target time, most overdue, Top 3 first, or highest effort. The strong-highlight threshold can begin after one, two, or three days.
The overdue indicators are intended to support intentional action and pattern awareness, not judgment.
Previous working day's unfinished and carry-forward
Review unfinished tasks from the most recent prior working date and their overdue age.
Check only the tasks that should enter today's plan.
Select Add selected tasks.
Review the resulting planned capacity.
Choose a carry-forward reason and continue.

Other
Duplicate handling
If a task with the same name already exists today, Focus7 merges the earliest original date, the stronger carry count, and the latest carry reason instead of creating a duplicate.
Reports and reflection
Today's progress: completion percentage, completed tasks, tasks left, Top 3, and planned capacity.
Focus pattern: actual focus, task switches, focus starts, and estimate accuracy.
Weekly focus report: seven-day focus and task-completion pattern.
Overdue action center: overdue-age buckets, oldest open task, and weekly carry pattern.
Energy insights: descriptive patterns by target time and effort type.
End-of-day reflection
Record accomplishments, blockers, and optional notes. Reflections remain descriptive and are included in backup and reporting data.
Backup, restore, and export
Export JSON
Creates a complete portable backup, including Task List records, linked Digital Day tasks, timers, workdays, overdue history, steps, deferments, settings, reflections, and Pomodoro information.
Import
Use Import to restore or merge a JSON backup. Older compatible task records are normalized automatically with the fields required by the current version.
Export to Excel
Creates an offline workbook for analysis and recordkeeping. JSON remains the recommended format for restoring the application.
Save backup directly
Uses the browser's file-saving capability when available.
Recommended: Export JSON regularly and before replacing the HTML file with a newer version. The application data is stored in the browser under daily-must-do-v1.
Practical operating tips
Capture uncertain work in Task List first; assign it to a Digital Day only when the date is meaningful.
Keep the daily list limited to work that can realistically fit within capacity.
Use Top 3 for importance and the overdue commitment indicators for delayed work. They are different signals.
Use Pause Workday for major non-digital periods, not ordinary Pomodoro breaks.
Use Try for 5 minutes when the main barrier is starting.
Break a large overdue task into concrete actions rather than creating many separate parent tasks.
Defer intentionally when a valid dependency exists. Do not change the original date.
Review unaccounted time as a descriptive allocation gap, not as a performance score.
Back up with JSON before upgrades or browser resets.
Example day
08:45: Add tasks and select Top 3.
08:50: Start Workday and begin the first focus task.
12:30: Pause Workday and choose Lunch.
13:15: Resume Workday, then resume the intended task.
15:00: Carry out a meeting outside the laptop using the matching pause reason.
17:30: Finish remaining tasks, save reflection, review allocation, and Close Day.
